BUNDT CAKE RECIPE by Lauren Wille.
Toula Portokalos is a 30-year-old single Greek woman working at her family’s restaurant, Dancing Zorbas. Her father, a traditional Greek, wants nothing more than for her to marry a nice Greek boy. As Toula becomes tired of spending all of her time at the restaurant, she realizes she wants more for herself. She signs up for some computer classes at the local college, and with the experience takes over her Aunt’s travel agency.
At the agency, Toula notices a dreamy guy, Ian Miller, (whom she embarrassed herself in front of at Dancing Zorbas) walking past for a few days. After staring longingly or hiding under her desk every time he walked past, the two finally meet. Being unsure of how Ian will react to her huge and sometimes obnoxious family, they begin secretly dating. Eventually, the cat’s out of the bag, and Toula’s father is livid that she would get so serious with a non-Greek.
But, with a little push from her mother, Toula’s father eventually accepts the situation and invites Ian’s parents to a “welcome to the family” party. Ian’s parents are quiet and conservative, and as they approach the party with Toula’s entire extended family awaiting them, their discomfort shows.
Toula’s father introduces each and every family member to Millers and when all the introductions are through, Mrs. Miller holds out a bundt cake. Completely confused, Toula’s mother asks, “What’s this?”
“It’s a bundt cake.” Mrs. Miller says.
Completely dumbfounded, Toula’s mother repeats, “Bundt?”
“Yes, bundt.”
“Bundt?”
“BUNDT!!!”
“Oh…It’s a cake!” She finally confirms. “This cake has a hole in it…”
